news-details

Production of the second Icon-class ship started at the Meyer Turku shipyard on Tuesday, February 14th 2023.

Representatives from the Royal Caribbean Group – the ship’s customer – and Meyer Turku were present at the festive event held at the steel construction hall. The traditional steel cutting ceremony marks the beginning of more than two years of construction and outfitting work, which will include thousands of professionals from different fields. When completed, the ship will play an important role in Royal Caribbean Group's fleet as part of the Icon class, which will provide completely new types of vacations. The name of Icon II will be revealed at a later date.

"Icon ships will be unprecedented both from the point of view of passenger experience and sustainable development. The construction of the second ship in the series, which has already started, further concretizes the long-term goals that Meyer Turku and Royal Caribbean Group have jointly committed to," says Tapani Pulli, Deputy CEO of Meyer Turku.

The planned completion date of Icon II is 2025. Meyer Turku and Royal Caribbean Group also have a construction contract for the third Icon-class ship, which will be completed in 2026.
